How to replace a KNEC certificate
KNEC offers an online service through its Query Management Information System (QMIS). Here’s how you can replace a lost or damaged certificate:
- Register an Account: Visit the QMIS portal and create an account.
- Log In: Use the credentials sent to your email to log in.
- Select Lost Certificate Option: From the menu, choose the “Lost Certificate” option.
- Fill in Details: Enter your index number, type of exam, and year, then click “FIND.”
- Attach Required Documents: Upload the necessary documents (listed below).
- Submit Application: Complete and submit your application.
- Make Payment: After receiving an SMS notification, log in to make the payment of KES 5,220.
- Track Application: Monitor the status of your application through the system.
- Collect Certification Letter: Once processed, you will receive an SMS notification to collect your certification letter from the KNEC offices.
Documents required
To apply for a certification letter, you need to attach the following documents:
- Copy of the lost certificate or result slip (mandatory)
- Both sides of your ID
- Passport size photo
- Police abstract
- Confirmation from the registrar of persons (available at NSSF Building, 7th floor, Upper Hill, Nairobi)

Can I change my KCSE or KCPE certificate name?
You can change your name at QMIS portal if your new name appears in the original birth certhficiate. If not, you will need to visit KNEC offices with official documentations.
